Health Officials Report No Confirmed Cases of Coronavirus in the Virgin Islands

St. Croix, US Virgin Islands (March 5, 2020) - The Virgin Islands Department of Health advises the public that there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thus far two out of now four Persons under Investigation (PUIs) have tested negative with two results.

This should not alarm the public, but be an indication of the high level of alert and stringent preventative measures the Health Department is proactively taking in response to this global outbreak.

COVID-19: Status Update in the U.S. Virgin Islands

ST. CROIX, USVI (March 2, 2020) —The Virgin Islands Department of Health has been monitoring the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since initial reports of an outbreak of respiratory illness was first identified in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. Since the initial transmission in China, the infection has progressed rapidly to other locations. As the number of patients affected increases and the science surrounding COVID-19 develops, so does the Federal Guidelines on the testing criteria.

Health Department and VITEMA Lead Operation Pan-Prepared Tabletop Exercise

U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI)–The Department of Health, in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (VITEMA), organized a tabletop exercise last week to bring relevant agencies together to assess the readiness of the Virgin Islands public health and healthcare systems to respond to a public health emergency. This exercise identified areas of strength and opportunities to strengthen the territorial response to a potential outbreak.

St. Croix, US Virgin Islands (January 23, 2020) - The office of the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse (VIBNL) Licensure advises Registered Nurses (RNs) and Advanced Registered Nurses (APRNs) that the VIBNL is temporarily unable to print license id cards. In the interim, you will be provided with a quick confirmation/verification for temporary use via email. Staff is currently working on updating the Nursys licensure database to reflect current renewal status.
