Bars, Nightclubs Allowed to Reopen Today With Restrictions

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — During the weekly press briefing at Government House on St. Croix on Monday, Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. set out the guidelines and restrictions governing the reopening of bars and nightclubs in the Territory, as set forth in Governor Albert Bryan Jr.’s 19th Supplemental Executive Order. 

“We have introduced a phased structure that defines our pathway to a new normal and have taken steps forward and backward,” Director Motta said. “Today, November 9, we officially take one of those steps forward on the path to our new normal.” 

DOH Issues Public Health Order, Clarifies Soccer Season is Not Permitted to Start

St. Croix, US Virgin Islands (November 7, 2020) – The Department of Health (DOH) clarifies that no team sports activities are currently permitted. An announcement by the Virgin Islands Soccer Association that the season will begin results from a misunderstanding that led them to plan the season, thinking that permission had been granted.

Health Department Reports Fourteen New Cases on Friday

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (November 1, 2020) – On Friday, the Department of Health reported 14 new cases of COVID-19 in the territory—six on St. Croix and eight on St. Thomas. A vessel* in the St. Thomas Harbour** accounted for six of the cases on St. Thomas. With Saturday’s numbers, this brings the total active cases in the territory to 37.

All positive cases from the vessel and their close contacts are safe and in quarantine. Territorial Epidemiologist Dr. Esther Ellis encourages the public to be vigilant as cases continue to peak in the U.S.
